I'm really into movies. Weirdly, the time I spend watching a good movie is a time I don't feel like a subhuman or even depressed.
There was a time of my life when things were so bad that I couldn't even watch movies, but I'm not going to allow it to happen again.
So I can watch and appreciate a movie with a female lead or even a feminist message if it's a good movie and the theme is delivered well. Like Ex Machina or Alien or Silence of the Lambs, although I don't really consider these movies feminist. I don't really care if I agree or disagree with the message if the movie is good.
For those 2-3 hours that I watch a movie, I am not an incel, and I enjoy the escapism. I watched tons of movies, and still have 500+ movies to watch (I add to the list some new releases every year).
What are your favorite films? What director? What film epoch?
My favorite film era is 90s with Leon, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, The Big Lebowski etc. I love most of Coen brother movies, I admire David Fincher and I know whatever he makes is going to be perfect. I watched all Danny Boyle and although he is usually a miss with box office, I fucking love what he does, especially the most underrated sci-fi movie Sunshine. Scorsese is my personal hit or miss, Spielberg is mostly a miss but I enjoy rewatching his old movies. I recently got into old Hollywood and I can say that if you want to watch a b/w film — start with 12 angry men, it's fantastic. My favorite writers are Martin MacDonagh (although he directed all of his movies too) and Alex Garland. I'll watch anything written by these 2 men. I have a soft spot for some warm art house like Submarine, Frank or anything by Charlie Kauffman. I moderately enjoy Tarantino. I think The Lobster is a fucking amazing movie, especially for this community, and I am curious to know your opinion if you watched this movie. As for female directors, there are really not much worth seeing. On body and soul was pretty good, even nominated for best foreign film, although she hasn't directed a movie for years. Kathryn Bigelow has 1.5 good movies and I enjoyed Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola. But that's probably it. I don't really care who directed the movie unless I like it.
