I don't live in some rich first-world country where you can easily obtain NEETbux, I live in Poland
I don't qualify for any kind of disability despite having severe scoliosis since childhood (which prevents me from most manual labor; I've been treated for it but I'd need a new spine not to be in constant pain) and I've been diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder (which means I don't care that much what people think of me (which kinda necessary for building a career or often even keeping a job) and I haven't developed any social skills as a result of my indifference to the external world) and generalized anxiety (this is kinda cope diagnosis, I'm stressed because I have to interact with people who hate me and with whom I can barely communicate)
unemployment benefits can pretty much only cover food expenses if you're homeless and you lose the right to them if you refuse jobs they assign to you (and there's always a customer service position for minimal wage to be filled, especially if you have documented foreign language skills like me
)I'm lucky enough because my parents let me live with them and I doubt they'd make me go homeless even if I refused to work or study (right now I study at university, but I'm also supposed to get at least a summer job), but they'd make my life living hell (even when they try to be nice/neutral to me, they're annoying)
in short: for most people it's either wagecucking or homelessness (or in extreme cases starvation), which are both shitty options and I can't really judge people for choosing one over the other
