My PC started an automatic update while I was asleep, something went wrong with it and I woke up to find out my Windows installation was corrupted and unable to be booted. However, I had a USB stick with the Windows installation software on it from some previous occasion years ago which fixed the problem in minutes. So I'd like to forward my experience as advice.

Truly Lifefuel advise:yes:. This also happened to me in late 2020 and thankfully I had a Windows 10 installation USB.

thanks. It's good advice. This is actually one of the reasons I keep 2 machines. One specifically with Windows 7.

The windows 10 one does what you just said constantly and is a right pain in the arse.

The only other bit of advice I would add is make constant system restore points maybe every fortnight or so, or before big installs of drivers etc...

That way, it could save you having to reboot OS from scratch if Bill and the crew decide to mash up your machine overnight when you switch it back on in the morning.

Thanks for the idea. I've never even looked into system restore points actually.
