You can root your android, install specific apps, and turn it into a tool for hacking if you want to. You can even run windows on it if you want if you install the right software

I also have an iPad mini 2 with iOS 8. Being stuck with an older Safari really hampers your ability to use the tablet (9/10 sites just plainly don't render), but I like keeping it old and true to its time.
