I’m tired of people dismissing real struggles with, “You have a roof over your head and food and water, so you’re privileged.” No, that’s just basic survival. That doesn’t mean someone has a good life. Having food and shelter doesn’t erase pain, trauma, or suffering. Humans need more than just food and shelter—they need love, emotional support, and a sense of belonging. A person can have everything they need to survive but nothing they need to actually feel human. Some people have no real friends, no one who truly understands them, and no escape from the loneliness. Even in adulthood, social isolation can be just as painful. Being unable to experience love, touch, or companionship can make life feel empty, no matter how much food is in the fridge. There are people who go their entire lives never knowing what it feels like to be truly wanted by someone. Dismissing that struggle just because they have a roof over their head is cruel and ignorant.
