The reason why popped in my mind when I was a late teenager and was reading a review on the Alien franchise. The observation written there was that what horrify and make us uneasy is not something that is completely OTHER than the human but when something still someway resembles a human but is definitely not human. This dissonance in the perception makes leverage on our intrinsic idea (platonic) of what a human is : two ears, two even eyes a nose etc. And when you think about "the human" you imagine a man with no specification, just the banal bare bone idea of a human face. By doing this mental projection of the prototype of "man" you are unconsciously removing every particularity and you end not imagining the average fucker because the average person has particulars that you notice that prevent him to be "easy" to read. You know that a recessed chin is unpleasant to look at cause in your brain there's the idea of "normal chin" which doesn't contain the idea of "recessed".
Thus the average man in his fluctuations cannot be immediately linked by your brain with " man " by itself. A face with no particularities is the face of Chad. He's good looking exactly because his face doesn't create any friction between the idea and the physical world. Chad's faces are very minimal, there's what it has to be there and nothing more. Nothing out of place or "unique". It's a paradox : his face stands out exactly cause nothing in it stands out.
Search on google images disgusted facial expressions and you'll notice there's almost a strenuous and stressful attempt to figure out what exactly they are observing. They're trying to apply an order when there is not. They're trying to FIGURE out what you are.
Now this horrible nauseating contrast exists because you somewhat reminds them of Chads (the prototype of humans). You are something awful that is still forced by their brain to be associated with something pleasant. No wonder why they hate you!
If walking on the street you see a shit you ignore it BUT if that shit is inside an otherwise inviting sweet white cake YOU VOMIT. You don't want to associate a tasty thing with literal poo. You feel almost violated by linking the two things.
This means that a cosmic terror not reminding in any way the idea of " the human " generates much much less disgust than a very asymmetric yet human face. You're a detestable mockery of the idea of a human, you shouldn't even exist. You're an horrible mistake casually spawned by the entropy of degenerating phenomenons.
