This morning I watched a vid from a YT channel and I came to know that Xi was ready to ban all of the users from using VPN in the most brutal way.

It goes without saying that the normal people in China will be harder to use it, but the craziest thing that Xi will do is that even the priviledged class except himself will not be able to use it arbitrarily either. For them unless you petition to Xi you can't use it either, and even you are petitioned to use it, you will be in extremely intensive surveillance while using it. All that you say and do will be recorded.

I mean wtf? China is turning into the second N. Korea? Luckily Xi does not know about incel.is so I still can get on the forum even after the prohibition is enacted, maybe because many women are running for him because of his insurmountable perks despite his incel look.

The thing is: the news channels reporting on this are FLG news channels (新唐人, 大纪元) etc, and they don't have the best of credibility.

I doubt they would crack down on VPNs hard forever, because they care about development over all: banning VPNs for expats like Eileen Gu is a bad idea.

He's the opposite of Gorbachev.

Gorbachev eased many restrictions, freed political prisoners, and generally allowed more freedom and generally westernized (for a lack of a better word) Russia/USSR.

Xi consolidated power in China (They removed the term limit and Xi will be the leader for life, the first leader for life since Mao), increased restrictions, increased censorship, and is moving in a more authoritarian and nationalist direction.

But if you mean in the sense of both (supposedly) being "leaders of an empire on the brink of collapse", I don't think that's the case either. China has a lot of problems and they're backwards in some ways, but in the some of the most important ways they're actually most forward thinking country on the planet. They're going all in on a lot of future technologies. EVs (at least on the low end), humanoid robots, 6G, evtols, and they already beat the west at solar panels. Of course the most important is AI, and they're still behind the United states (Google, Anthropic, Xai, openAI) but they're not that far behind. They are, at most, like a year behind us. But with the United States becoming extremely anti-AI (many states are banning construction of new data centers) and China going in a more pro-AI direction, it's easy to see how they can surpass us. This is something I plan to discuss in more detail in my upcoming "future predictions" thread.
