The Army + Marine Corps in their current forms are big enough to defend Taiwan. We aren't some third world shithole like Ukraine that needs to rely on conscripts for frontline combat.

I think WW3 is going to be like the Cold War in the sense that most civilians (except the ones living in warzones) won't be in danger. I don't think nuclear weapons are going to be used because of MAD. It's just going to be like the Cold War but with less proxy wars and more direct involvement. There's definitely still going to be a decent amount of intervention and funding of militant groups from various intelligence communities of all countries though.

The US has several logistics centers in the pacific, and don't forget that Taiwan's military is formidable for a country of its size and has been preparing for decades for an invasion by the PRC. Japan is also likely to intervene on Taiwan's side.
