Hard to say, but I imagine ER probably not told his parents what he thought. The problem with people born in the range of 60s - 70s - is they don't really have any knowledge or concept of mental health. They were born off the spring of the 40s, a time where people had to 'pull their sleeves up, be a man and get on with it. ER conveyed his frustrations and mental health to people but no one listened. Just like the governments do not listen to our pain, and instead police us and want to throw us all behind bars.
