That's what everyone wants. I'm sort of doing it now and it's quite nice, but companies want to go back to in-person because communication and productivity does suffer with a remote workforce, it's obvious to me.
I'm afraid what will happen once the economy goes into full correction is that all these remote jobs will either be offshored to poor countries (for the low-skilled ones), forced to go back to in-person (for the higher skilled ones) or just done away with via automation and consolidation. Only the most senior tech workers will still be allowed to work remotely.
Instead I think the primary and especially secondary sectors of the economy are going to see huge growth while most job losses are in the service sector. I'm planning to only stay at my current job for the next year before doing something with a better future. I recommend you go to community college and explore a few different programs to see which you like the most.
