Yeah, my mother believed the old adage: "Your son is your son till he takes a wife, your daughter's your daughter for the rest of your life." That's why she lied, cheated and stole from me to benefit my sister. Her favoritism against me was legendary. The two of them finally eloped together to another part of the country, with my sister yelling out the moving van window at my Dad and me, "We don't need or want anything from either one of you!"
Never mind that half of the stuff in that van didn't even belong to them.
See, my mother had pushed my sister into becoming a nurse. No doubt in my mind whatsoever that the plan was so she could have a free medically trained nanny to take care of her in her old age. But here is where her plan went down the tubes. She had raised her daughter to be a selfish entitlement queen, like she herself was
So only a few months go by and my mother starts periodically calling my Dad claiming, "You are my husband! You should be at my side in our daughter's house!" He asked her, "What about your son?"
"He can go to Hell!" she yells.
He hung up on her.
Turns out, my mother was making phone calls to all of her available relatives (at times when my sister wasn't at home), asking them, "Please! Take me in! I can't live with my daughter anymore! She's gonna KILL me!" And their collective answer was, "You made your bed, you lie in it."
Funny how quiet our society is about daughters abusing their elderly moms (who lied, cheated, and stole for them to set them up in life, but end up getting a thanks like this).
As far as men dying sooner than women, I see that as a blessing. Look at where these old women end up. In old folk's homes, where the staff doesn't really give a damn about them. Needing help to dress and undress, and to get around, and to be bathed, and fed, and their asses wiped for them.
I'd happily choose to be decomposing in a graveyard, any day.
