In our country grad school is like this:
1. super elite ricecels go to the West to study grad school (mostly people from NTU)
you do GRE Quant + Verbal.
you use GPA to compete with other people.
Most stemcels get 168-170 in quant and 15x in verbal
2. people from other colleges use GPA
3. if you have bad GPA you are forced to "kaoyen" which means doing this test

most people slack themselves off in 1st year of college

How to gain GPA? simple: do well in exams at college

you can always switch to CS and do quantum computing. It's a hot research area with plenty of funding.
