Just curious!

I've made the poll anonymous just in case anyone tries to target anyone based on them not updating their machine much!

I use Win 10 LTSC. Very few updates, by design.

Windows 10 Pro now updates like few times a month at best, it's very fast

I have a pirated and stripped down version of windows and all anti virus and firewall off

All updates offf
All back ground automatic process off

It just turns on and played videos games then off no virus no hang no bull

Maybe best to get a firewall, lol

Also you can always scan things on virustotal or whatever :)

I swear it happens every 2 weeks, i'm a massive retard so i use the latest windows stock standard everything

I'm using Linux Mint at the moment, but I get curious about Windows still! Mostly because it's the most popular desktop OS and I'm curious about what it's like, how it's changing, etc.

That's still quite a lot if it's forced or makes you reboot?
it's just gives you yellow notification on Windows Security app that update will require reboot in the future, but it doesn't interrupt your work or gaming. It was a problem in like 2015-2016 i remember when they forced updates on you while you were using your PC/Laptop.
I don't have problem with it since even on SATA SSD it's very fast.

Does it force the reboot?

Oh interesting. Maybe not a bad idea there then. It doesn't pester you much?
No, and it comes without all the bloat as well. Wouldn't use Windows any other way.

Oh interesting. I'm very used to it forcing the reboot... either within a very short timeframe or at least within... a slightly longer timeframe, lol

To be honest... I kind of feel like I've been burned by Windows too many times now!

It's such a rollercoaster and... I find it tedious not knowing what they'll force on me tomorrow or next year!

Yeah that would drive me crazy I think if it kept doing that!

That's pretty smart yeah. I'll look into it.

I'm still uneasy about this though XD

if you want Windows without bullshit being forced on you, install Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC then (i use it currently on my second PC built out of older parts) cause i'm not at my home now, it's supported until 2032.
I've come back to Windows in around 2020 after year long use of Linux that i tried out of curiosity and it's only made me appreciate Windows more although it's worth noting that Windows 11 has worse gaming performance than 10 even after all of the fixes.
Plenty of the issues Linux preachers tell you is bs or no longer true, like for example update situation. What i know is that if you're in the West even in Windows 10 they will turn on Copilot app but you can uninstall it, native support of Copilot is only available with CPUs and SoC with NPU.

Around once every month I think

it doesnt. I dont let it.

Idk, not much

That's quite an extreme to go to though (10 IoT Enterprise LTSC) to just have a passable OS.

I think any rumour about Windows even if it's not true now it probably was a year ago and may well be in another year. It's constantly changing and constantly introducing or reintroducing problems.

I do appreciate SOME things about Windows of course. It's quite robust in some ways and has good support for games and software, and has far more official drivers.

So it's not bad through and through. I think both have pros and cons and it depends what your priorities are.

Over the years I've used Suse, Slackware, Ubuntu, Mint and others too.

A random thing I wanted to add is that the way that some of these modern operating systems are so intrusive makes me think of what it would be like if someone were to come into my bedroom once a month (or more!) and tell me I have to rearrange everything >.<

I have to block it every single day I wake up.

Apparently you can stop them in group policy, at least on pro. ChatGPT told me this:

Steps to Stop Windows Updates Using Group Policy Editor

  1. Open Group Policy Editor:
    • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to Windows Update Settings:
    • Go to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.
  3. Disable Automatic Updates:
    • Double-click "Configure Automatic Updates".
    • Select Disabled.
    • Click Apply and OK.
  4. Stop Update Orchestrator Service (Optional):
    • In the same Group Policy Editor, go to:Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Windows Update for Business.
    • Double-click "Disable safeguards for Feature Updates" and enable it.
