Wouldn't reproduction be contra-productive to the survival of each individual gene because during reproduction genes get reshuffled during meiosis across the chromosomes in a process that is in no way under the control of any particular gene? So reproduction would require each gene to undergo a process that can potentially destroy it or make it less relevant in the next generation that is totally out of their control. Is that risk worth the chance of surviving to the next generation unchanged?

I have never read the Selfish Gene, even though I purchased a copy some years ago. I might read it and see how it has been tested since it's initial publication in 1976. I don't think it is very "blackpilling", though, since the implications of gene-level selection do not entail the derivation of any teleological conclusions.
