It all comes down to natural selection I suppose. Women are physically far weaker than men, and they're not exactly known for being exceptionally crafty either. In more primitive times, if a woman were exiled from her tribe/community, it would likely have been a death sentence. A man, thanks to his greater physical capabilities, could at least afford to be more independent and self sufficient and continue his lineage.

The reason women tend to operate like a hive mind and are generally more complacent toward authority and social norms probably comes from evolutionary reasons.

1. In order to get accepted/stay in a tribe to ensure her survival, she must possess more agreeable personality traits, avoid confrontation, indulge in people pleasing behaviour etc.
2. If she failed to do this, she would have been at greater risk of being targeted, ostracized used as a scapegoat by other women.
3. Women who were accepted by their social groups likely had greater reproductive success than those who were excluded. Over many generations, this could have favored personality traits associated with greater social conformity, and those traits would then have been passed on to their offspring.

I think that them being so two faced, them indulging in gossips way more than men and all the related stuff to the management of their reputation is related to this
