Serious Why was ER stopped by a door?

As you may know Elliot Rodger was headed to a sorority house to shoot it up. But was stopped when h realised the door was locked. And then he changed his plan and started drive by shooting.
What I don't understand Is why the door stopped him. First of all why didn't he realise that the door would be locked, did he assume that shit would be wide open?
Also why didn't he hide his weapons, knock on the door and when some slut opens it he could go in.
Or more simply he could have shot the door open.
How the fuck does someone fuck up so badly?

While he shouldve factored that into his plan, his assumption was valid. Most people dont lock their doors, I dont and I dont recall a single roommate of mine who does, if youre home most people just leave their doors open because its convenient

ER's best plan would have been to stake out a Frat Party and go Nutso there. Anyone who has been to college or watched movies about college, knows that Sororities don't throw big parties. The Frats do.

He should have waited for a big party. Arrive about 2 hours after it starts. Blend in with a backpack. Go into the bathroom. Change and come out and just unload. In California NOBODY has guns. Nobody would be able to defend himself.

Most of these shooters are loners and it is incredibly difficult to get that many people to commit towards such a plan.
