People born in the 2000s, not so much. I live nearby an elementary. And with each year that passes by, things become a lot worse. Have you seen the 7- and 8-year olds of today? Can you look at Generation Z (and especially the younger ones) and say, this will be the generation that will conquer the stars, that will invent cloning, cure cancer and end poverty. Because I can't.

I don’t think you can predict societal collapse on the premise that people are becoming more promiscuous. Universities are geared towards building the future and just because society is becoming more superficial does not mean it is becoming more apathetic with regard to aquiring knowledge.

Much of the milestones you mentioned will be brought on by the discovery of self-improving artificial intelligence that will revolutionise society in the next 50-70 years rendering human intellectual contribution obsolete.

That is what I presumed you meant by “degeneracy” if you are referring to the dumbing down of society I would somewhat agree. Though I think in the future it is inevitable that we will rely on the government much more, simply because if free market is allowed to operate unrestricted then people will start starving once jobs become automated and employment rapidly declines. This process is well underway already, but is poised to worsen drastically within the next 20 years and beyond.

Actually, technological progress has almost completely stalled since the late 1960s. With the exception of improved computerization and the invention of the internet, progress in science and technology has been rather insignificant.

I don't really think we'll see a complete collapse of society within our lifetimes. Instead I think we'll just continue down the same path we've been going in for a while. Social cohesion will continue to decline, the country will become more and more divided, extremist groups will gain more popularity, and governments will use this as an excuse to become more authoritarian and gradually erode our civil liberties. Basically society will just continue to gravitate more and more towards authoritarianism and SJWism.

Of course, I'm just extrapolating the current trajectory and assuming there won't be any unforeseeable world changing events that could cause a dramatic cultural paradigm shift. But who knows....maybe in 30 years we'll have achieved the technological singularity and spend all day in fully immersive VR with our sentient AI waifus. Maybe we'll end up with a techno-dystopia version of 1984. Or maybe we'll have a third world war where nukes are used. No long term prediction is a guarantee...but the above paragraph is the most likely scenario.

I cant speak for the industries hes talking about but from years of amateur research i can absolutely say a lot of fields of science have absolutely stalled and even regressed in some areas, despite the mainstream image of frantic activity they project to hide the fact that real innovations are nowhere to be found. Medicine is one of the worst offenders. The models for cancer and other diseases are hilariously unproductive, and theres a lot of "clever-silly"ism going on in medical research, where researchers get obsessed with trends of dubious importance while ignoring bigger pictures.
