Certain individuals - just like Frankfurter Schule or 68er Bewegung/hippie movement, introduced concepts like Free Love (which is only free for chad) and glorified drug abuse/abandoning duties - the infection that kills us
Corporatism, technological progress, liberalism (the thought that everyone is equal and that freedom is inherently good, which lead to the abolishment of all real/macroscopical orders and replaced the vacuum with micro-authoritarianism), security/material wealth (we took what he had for granted instead of something that was fought for), the media (Internet/TV/movies/music industry), becoming too "nice", the fall of "good" rivals - what allowed it to spread/the AIDS
Sadly the UDSSR fell - back then we felt unified due to a common enemy, our lives had a purpose, our relationship with the UDSSR led to an antagonistic coevolution which resulted in many inventions/achievements - now there is no such thing, because China gets by most people completely ignored (because it works microscopically unlike the UDSSR where the conflict was always macroscopical/visible/a tangible threat), again a good story is only so good as its villains and the Nazis/Russians are now no more, the "enemies of modern society" are some incels, Rednecks, Taliban, etc. that have no capacitiy to be a real threat on anything but an individual level - everything is just microscopical now via buying up your country bit by bit. The lack of a macroscopical aggression now leads to that toxic society with dozens and dozens of micro-aggressions where people live like rats and constantly try to eat each other.
Each day we see that "freedom" made people -no, males- inherently worthless and due to things like work/discipline mattering less and less physical characteristics (not based on race, but rather on height/face/frame) matter more and more and have become the metric used for the quantification of the worth of people.
A return to the way things were is impossible - at least within the parameters of established morality, Pandora's Box is sadly now open and the world is changed.
