Yet they plug away relentlessly like water dripping on a rock. They're current position is due to those constant never ending efforts. Not particularly "smart" but relentless.

Because they control it all virtually and have for a very long time now where more recently it's just getting more blatant where they don't even try to hide it anymore.
Yes it was earned, but their ethnocentrist traditions didn't came out of nowhere. It is logical that they were forced to band together and adopt a defensive mentality or otherwise perish.
And while not physically hard, some intellectual careers have enormously larger returns than physical jobs and require highly intelligent individuals. And since they started doing those kind of services for christian monarchs in the middle ages they have spent centuries accumulating these returns and breeding intelligence in order to keep perfecting their craft through the generations. That's why they are overrepresented amongst the wealthy, scientists, bankers, financiers, physicians and in elite schools.
Relentless effort alone is not enough to build what they have built. Most people leverage relentless efforts their whole lives but never get anywhere. They are undeniably smart. And denying it is even worse than not doing it, because it is admitting that we are being dominated by dumb people, which is not true. Weren't they smart, they would have already been toppled.
There ethnocentric tradition came from their religion that says god created everyone else to serve them.
What you mistake as to be intelligence is simply sneakiness to get around all the various bullshit "laws" that heir god gave them... You could say, their intelligence is dedicated to "getting over on god." And all that transfers over very well to reality.
Since they have no problems scamming their god, how much worse do you think they scam their "slaves?"
Why they are "overrepresented" is because they only hire their own. Eventually, they dominate do to saturation.
As for why they haven't been toppled yet, is because they control the minds of everyone through media and schooling.
If you control public opinion, you control the public. Now add money.... If you control the means of survival (money = food/shelter), you have even more control of the population.
