It's really interesting to me that people keep getting taller with each generation. And while some may claim that this raise in height in recent years is mostly thanks to better nutrition, it is obvious that it was natural selection that did 90% of the work.If you look at the last 1000 years humans have been getting taller, and recently the process has sped up due to the fact the the world is now more connected than ever, and now females have the possibility to choose more mates from around the world which are tall. But my question is...why? After all natural selection like this has some sort of purpose, for example the short-necked giraffes were bred out by the taller ones in order for the giraffes to easier get to the taller trees and leafs. What good does height do for humans? What puzzles me the most is that especially now, that we don't really need height anymore to survive, females still keep choosing taller mates over those who are with good facial features but short, why?

Exactly, height is only useful when you're tall relative to other humans. If everybody was 6 foot 5 it would be of determent to general health (increased rist of cancer and athritis) and lead to a higher rate of resource consumption because things need to be bigger. It's completely irrational in the long term

primal instincts to be drawn towards taller men passed down from those primitive times.

I think it is because height is a masculine trait i think.

Also giraffes have long necks because they use it as a weapon which is called "necking".

Why do we have them in the first place though? Humans evolved from monkeys. Monkeys are (most of their species anyway) agile and small creatures. Unless nature intended us to in the end be as large as a giraffe I see no point in humans getting taller. Besides, in order to achieve this it will take thousands of years, even with the aid of technology (unless we figure some shortcut).

Simple. The larger your bones are the more y
muscle you will be able to pack on. Taller = better max strength cap.

Also Taller = More calories required in order to sustain your body.
Every Advantage has a disadvantage. I don't see the point in this one.

Basically our human primal instinct isn't smart enough to take calories and food consumption into the picture. Women want to breed with the biggest male because it will lead to her having stronger offspring.

What about tall guys that are not in shape? I've seen numerous times females with 6'1-6'3 guys who are fat or very skinny, way more times than I've seen the same ones walking with shorter guys who have a stronger build.

Yes indeed but people that are tal are tall because they access nutrition in most of their lives, it is hard to experience true malnutrition in first world countries and body is an efficient machind that can survive with low amount of calories through adulthood.

But nutrition truly stopped being a problem in first world countries only after around the 50's. It's unlikely for nature to adapt so quickly. Besides, humans average height has been increasing for a long time. humans at 300 B.C where smaller than human in 1500 A.D.
