There was a prehistoric species of deer--the Irish Elk if I'm not mistaken--in which the females would sexually select for males with larger antlers. It got to the point that the antlers of the deer become so heavy that they could barely rear their heads, leading to a host of problems that contributed to the species' gradual extinction.

Sometimes I begin to think that women's comically absurd height requirements will lead humanity down the path of the Irish Elk.

Exactly. I've discussed this specific example before and it's true. There's more and more health problems the taller you get.
