I think it's common knowledge by now that women's lives are a lot more valuable in the eyes of society than that of men.
It is this way because women have a natural baby factory inside them, and 1 man can impregnate 10s if not 100s of women at a time. Which leaves us with the basic principle of supply and demand, if 1 man can impregnate so many women, why should there be so many of them? Society realises this and thus inflates the value of women and deflates the value of men. If you were to lock a man and 10 women in a room for 9+ months, you'd end up with 10 babies, if you locked a woman in a room with 10 men you'd end up with only 1 baby.
Once women hit their menopause, men of equivalent ages value increases relative to the value of the female as now, the male has economic value which in turn translates to societal value, they can now fully provide for the babies the women have produced before they hit the menopause and their worth declined. This is one of the main reasons society cares so much when "a young male" commits suicide, usually sprouting that "he had a bright future". Society doesn't want men to kill themselves when their value is the lowest relative to the opposite gender because they have "future potential" value as a provider for a child/ren and the system alike.
