No matter how expensive a console is, you always have to pay full price on now $80 games. No other product category does this, you either pay a little for a subsidized product with expensive accessories/consumables or pay more to not deal with that.

I just get games pre-owned. It costs practically nothing unless it's a rare game that didn't produce many physical copies. I got all the SSX snowboarding games for only about 50 dollars or so on the OG Xbox last month.
It's cheaper to buy physical, even new releases are sometimes discounted. I've never payed 70 or 80 for a game on release. Some games also retain their value so you can sell them once you're done with them. My copy of Sekiro can still be sold for £40 and it has been out since 2019. In the UK we have a store called CeX where you can buy and trade in games for every system.

Once they aren't produce anymore I will stay with PCs and play on my consoles for as long as they work.
