Is is just a fear of the unknown?

A fear of total oblivion, or even hell?

Because we just have no possible way to know?

They say that death will be the same thing as life before we were even born

But no one is able to remember or conceptualize life before birth because we had no consciousness while we were sperm and egg, and then in the womb and even before we were conceived

Many say that it’s nothing but blackness but surely you wouldn’t even be able to even see, be aware of, even comprehend blackness without brain function?

People of faith believe in the afterlife but concepts of heaven or hell logically don’t seem possible, nor does reincarnation

Many of us say we want to end our lives to end the pain, but are you ending the pain if you aren’t even able to be aware of the pain ending, or pain in the first place?

So we fear death because we are unable to conceptualize not being alive

Many of us say we want to end our lives to end the pain, but are you ending the pain if you

Because our brains don’t like us dying

Thaat's pretty much it. We are so used to being alive.

But death is scary just because of how no one can know what happens. I find the idea of utter oblivion to be as terrifying as the idea of hell.

If the Christian God was real and therefore heaven was real, but God did not write things like suicide, being gay and participating in gay sex, having sex before marriage, or not accepting that His son, Christ, saved us all from sin are things punishable by damnation but simply being a good person would be enough to go to heaven, the entire human race would kill themselves

One of the things that caused me to go from being a Christian to being an atheist is that a mass murderer or child rapist could go to heaven if he converted to Christianity and accepted Christ prior to death, but a gay person or a Muslim person who lived a life of being an unquestionable good person (loved everyone, donated to charity, contributed to the community etc) would be punished to hell.

Fear of the unknown...

Just think of death just like when you go to sleep, you dont remember a thing, nothing, will you tell me that you remember where you live, who you are in the dreams you have?

I think its something like that... I do believe that there must be something else after, we are talking about our life before we were even born, but we havent lived yet a life until then, we were into eternal nothingness, just a sperm and a egg that has not fused yet. Now however, we lived a life, i am sure there is something else after, just think about it.

Self-preservation.

Self-preservation.
But what makes someone actually have the balls to kill themselves? I know that some who are affected with terminal illness, if they live somewhere that assisted suicide/euthanasia is legal, will make use of it to not have to live the rest of their life in pain when there is no hope of
survival, but would the desire to avoid the anguish and go painlessly be enough to override the fear of death?

Isn't just like before you were born?
But we have no way of knowing what things were like. It doesn’t feel like life starts until the day you start retaining memories, which just feels like it came with nothing before it.

Like you remember your “first day” which in reality isn’t since babies don’t retain memories until they are toddlers.

I don't remember my first memories

I don't remember my first memories
I do

climbing on a ledge and saying mama and dada

idk if I was 2 or 3

I must have been 3 because it didn’t feel that much longer before I started pre school

Death is not the end. We're trapped in an eternal hell.

I don't.

I fear the process of dying but that's different, I don't fear the actual death.

What do you think happens when you die?

Most death actually involve pain. Extreme pain even. And like others said, fear of the unknown.

I believe that's what we truly fear. Not death but pain and what can possibly come after.

I fear more dying itself and what comes after than the potential pain of the dying process

I don’t, I’m looking forward to it......

What do you think happens when you die?

Nothing, afterlife doesn't exist. It's just an abstract concept. You just instantly switch your perspective to whatever comes after. Infinite time, infinite possibilities, universe cannot end it always was and always will be so given that if we got an infinite timeline then eventually whatever happened that made you sentient now will happen again eventually you alive is proof of that alone and since time is relative it can take 1000 trillion years for that to happen or 1 day it makes no difference to you it will be instantaneous.

If you don’t fear death then why haven’t you killed yourself?

Because there’s people I don’t want to hurt
I’m no stranger to death I know what it does to familes
I’m not trying to put them through that I’m not mad at my folks

That was also a low IQ question tbh :feelsjuice:

But we can’t comprehend nothing.

Its because of our survival instinct

But we can’t comprehend nothing.

Well what does that have to do with anything? We can't comprehend life either and yet here we all are.

We can because we can see, hear, taste, feel, and be aware of things. Not during death.

People don't wanna die cuz they don't wanna stop existing in this world

There is nothing beyond death. Eternal nothingness.
If you don’t fear death then why haven’t you killed yourself?
OOF!

But we can’t comprehend nothing.
The rigth word you mean is non-existence and theirs no such thing, there’s only existence.
We can because we can see, hear, taste, feel, and be aware of things. Not during death.
No we can’t, those are all illusions made up by the brain. Even with visible colours we see were made up to differentiate between the wavelengths we can see. That’s the subject reality not the objective reality.
There is nothing beyond death. Eternal nothingness.
Your very existence contradicts such notions, you’ll be forced into a perspective just like you were forced into your current perspective indefinitely. Existence is mandatory.

I don’t fear death, just the pain associated with it

Not much of a perspective that would be when I am eternally unconscious. "Perspective" is a rather generous term for such a state

There was an infinite period before 'you' were born and a infinite period after your death. Your very existence contradicts such notions. You were forced into your current perspective and will be forced into another perspective again. Your identity will be gone after death, a new perspective will be forced upon 'you' and a new identity will grow. Existence is mandatory, perspective is mandatory. This is logic and logic is consistent.

Contradicting yourself?
The first part was your belief that there is an infinite nothingness after your death. I put that there to show your contradictions. How you didn’t get that I don’t know it was a demonstration.

You seem to not get this after that sentence. Cutting quotes.

Yeah I didn't get that at first. I am sleep deprived and feverish so its hard to keep track with verbose quotes that don't really explain anything(or even make sense)

It’s okay, happens to us at times.

We all have a book of our life that has all the good things we had done,so when jesus sees it,many good muslims will get in heaven

fear of the unknown , and fear that there is nothing after that .

imagine this is your life , and there is nothign after

litteraly a Huge fucking waste.

I only fear dying before I can enact my revenge. Which is gonna take a long bit of time...

Its not that we fear, but the organism will keep itself alive because its a retard and all it knows is to reproduce, eat and shit.
