I'm open to using it, haven't actually invested in it but it's just another tool in the toolbox of self defense.

Guns are probably more reliable but not always ideal. Say you're battling on a spaceship and don't want to puncture the wall where everyone suffocates with a bullet - pepper spray could be a better choice of a ranged weapon there.

Also say a dog attacks me: I might not want to kill a dog, just dissuade it.

Plus it's probably easier to be accurate since dogs are small targets and pepper spray aims in a wide mist like a shotgun.

You're falling into a limited scope of masculinity, one could argue any weapon whatsoever is unmanly compared to beating a foe to death with your bare hands.
