I think it's an issue deeper than mere politics. It's an issue of creed, Shi'ites aren't Muslims to begin with, these people think the separation between Sunnis and Shias is simply a difference between sects within Islam, but Shias aren't Muslim at all. It's a pagan religion masquerading as a sect of Islam... nullifiers such as belief in the 12 imam demigods, grave worship, calling to Ali and his sons instead of God, a lot of them also believe the Quran is alterated. And they are even worse than the average disbeliever because as you said, they act as a fifth-column, trying to infiltrate and deform Islam, and whenever they can they side with disbelievers against Muslims.

But aside from that, it's true they are responsible for the death of countless Sunnis and fought with the US against sunnis multiple times. Israel sold weapons to Iran during the Iraq-Iran war, the US gave the government of Iraq to Shias who hold the country to this day while Sunnis (specially the predecessor to the IS) were the ones mostly responsible for the resistance against American occupation, the Shias of Iraq admitted they could not defeat IS at its height without American air support, etc.
