the title is RapeLay but that was just a glorified grope sim, I'd barely call that sex and there was no combat mechanics

for it to be a game about rape I can respect you need to have foid opponents who actually resist the rape and you need to outskill them w/ limb manipulation and joint locks and shifting weight positions and so on like the various UFC or WWE games but with genitals

The kind of caliber that OP is probably thinking of does require a lot of different talents and man hours. A single individual might be able to throw together a rough around the edges game in some prefab engine like Unity, or deliberately use simple retro style pixel art (which would ruin a Rape sim IMO). You really need a team. Maybe start up a git repo and solicit contributions?

Making a retro style pixel art game would be a terrible idea, because the graphics would not be nearly as detailed as they should. It doesn't have to look like a modern AAA game, but its graphics have to be at least somewhat realistic. I think contributions and kickstarter are the best way to be fair.

Could also handle the game logic first while using crude placeholder assets, and then later hire artists to flesh out 3D models and textures and everything.

It might be easier to just design mods for existing game frameworks like hacking a UFC or WWE game which already have basic grappling and setting up different avatars, a couple new extra hit locations, etc.

It would need to be put into FPV perspective to maximize the sense that you are giving chase, and not just watching some guy do it from afar. I'm thinking more like a GTA open environment where the player prowls the streets to identify a :feelsohh: prime target. Then sneak/pursuit mechanics come into play as the player chases her down and grapples her out of view of any bystanders. Submission gets filled by thrashing and intimidating the target.

games are a terrible fight medium too, scripted fights in anime and stuff will always be better than some limited move set, but it's all about customizability and the challenge of combatting AI in real time

Dual joysticks or pads for limb diversity sounds okay, though I could get into button combos if they were somehow intuitively designed.

Maybe there's something to be drawn from the Arkham Asylum games? I seem to recall they adapted the grappling aspects Batman used in the comic/TV which had been absent in earlier games which were 100% strikefests.

Tying people up is passive grappling and should be an afterthought once you have a solid active grappling scene though.

I'm remembering SNES games like Maximum Carnage / Separation Anxiety now, they had a god system where after a punch stunned a guy you could walk up to the while they staggered and would auto-grapple them. Then you could continue to punch or swap into a pickup and throw. Plus firing webs could a couple kinds of grappling too.

I guess this goes back to the NES/arcade days of Double Dragon where a doubled-over guys head would be thrust down for you to knee them muay-thai style.

Plus Street Fighter. Mortal Kombat as I recall was overly light on the grappling in the early days, only gaining it later.
