Why are horror films always so lame?

Sometimes the premise sounds good so I watch it but they're always shit.

it have been a lot of time since i watched a real good horror film these days
all the new horror movies are just cheap jump scares that start to be really non scary at all after the first hour of the film or just very bad story line.
also, all horror films now need to have a female protaganist for some reason. it's a waste of time to watch them anyway
