It seems like just 10 years ago you could google "forum about X" and even if X was some pretty obscure subject, you'd find a lively and relatively high-IQ community about it. Nowadays you can't discuss shit online. Not only the normie-saturated culture won't allow it, the format itself fuels recency bias. On a forum you have different subforums, everything's organized, there are megathreads, FAQs etc. , on Discord, Facebook groups, subreddits everything is just a huge stream of data, the search function usually barely works and "necroposting" is discouraged, so you get the same beginner questions getting asked over and over again and they make 90% of the posts, so you get the "eternal beginner syndrome" aka you can't start a serious discussion because everyone seems to be a newbie.

The same shit happens all the time. Communities move to Discord and they become little circlejerks. I used to participate in the HypnoPonies forum (a community centered around pony hypnosis, you can google that) and it was a small and comfy community. I liked reading the little journals on the forum, seeing silly threads about tulpas, plenty of stuff to read. But nooo… it moved to Discord and not only it's still dead, but also it's hard to dive in into old content, revive old discussions and there are no blogs. It's pretty much one channel with the hypnosis files and a few channels where people randomly post memes.

I just want some high quality discussions, goddamnit. I'm not even high IQ myself, I just like reading this kind of stuff. There are probably forums for such things, but they're kept hidden, very small, possibly invite-only. :feelsbadman:

They moved to Reddit and Discord and Facebok. Outside of Discord, I will never go to the others.

big corps monoplized them and now all forums are under one banner

Social media. Why post on a niche area with basic text when you can share slutting it up photos on insta? Social media basically became a one stop shop for all your needs rather than forums which you may need to to several to get the same "community".

I don't get why discord became so popular. The only ok thing with it is the so called anonymous shit, for private messaging. But a community can't stay alive by itself on discord.

Most people don't have anything controversial enough to say that they don't mind putting their name and picture on it. Or, at least, they don't think they do.

Increasing moderation standards have also removed the appeal of forums for those who do what anonymoty. Years ago, you only really got banned from forums, even left leaning ones, for straight up racial hatred or directly attacking other users with inflammatory language. There were also extensive warming periods, etc. Now, everything is like reddit, instant ban for not towing the globo-homo line for one fucking second.

Forums cost money to operate, it's cheaper to open up a facebook page. But even the big tech social media site are garbage and it's limited as far as freedom of speech goes.

I miss posting on forums of my favorite bands/genre/etc. A lot of based memories came from being on there. But all of them shut down and moved to facebook. I refuse to open up an Instagram page, and I deleted my facebook years ago because it triggered my depression when I looked at my schoolmates advance in careers/married/kids, meanwhile I'm still working dead end jobs in my 30s.

Its harder than ever to find a forum thats you can relate to in this cucked state of society now. I'm glad I found this site, it reminds me of the early 2000s forums like Ogrishforums.com and a few others.

Normies are too low IQ and too low attention span for forums. Normies prefer pictures, tik tok & at most for reading twitter which is only a few words max.

So forums are for like 0.1% of people like us.

The goal is to regroup everything in one big place. It's more easy to track the problematic people and arrest them.

One world forum, leddit.

Redditization. Put yourself into the head of your average normalfag:

- Always looking for validation
- Lazy, prefers to stay in the Dunning-Kruger peak.

In comes Reddit.

- Global Karma system, so all of your validation points count to a central account
- Don't need an account for every interest you have
- You can just post memes, or virtue signal on new posts for near infinite, easy Karma without putting in any effort

This then leads to perpetual low effort content being regurgitated on every single subreddit. Just look at shit like r/Nvidia. "OMG LOOK AT MY NEW BUILD GUYZZ" x1000000.

The only notable exceptions are certain shitposting subs, where you really can't farm Karma because they're too small.

Normalfags ruined the internet
Now it's just a place for retards to spam their smartphone selfies

Its social media boyo. The big platforms are a monopoly. You know everybody became dumb and controlled with it. And the Soyfrancisco giants controll everything erveryone thinks and does.

Only a rise of underground culture again would bring back old internet. But with the Gayfrancisco platforms imposible.

high-IQ is out of fashion

Reddit, Quora, Facebook, Twitter have all taken a significant share from traditional forums. They are easier to navigate, more streamlined and more social.

I don't understand Reddit's popularity. It's design,UI and texting system is utter shit.
Forums are much better than reddit
