i just use winutil on every install, worked well so far. And yet, some "features" cannot be removed completely, like this crappy news feed in the task bar

Oh Chris' one. hehe

I watch that guy sometimes ^_^

Yeah erm... that's really good. I guess at some point though I get a bit bored of fighting with the OS. Especially as these days Linux is so much better than it used to be and Windows is so much worse.

You got Steam Deck that runs Linux but I wish more games ran on it or at least be stable on Linux but since Windows is like a huge portion of the computer market nobody really cares about Linux users when it comes to games, that in my opinion is like my biggest gripe with it, other than that linux is fucking amazing unlike windows with their annoying ass copilot ai shit.

I think Linux is at the point now where it has enough games to just about be a viable platform for gaming. Just.

If you compare it to years back when it only had a handful of games... that's pretty good!

i've used all of them since 3.1

95/98 was simple and i liked the aesthetic. i still keep a 95 vm around for old games and shit

xp was lightweight but i didn't like the updated GUI and it was a security nightmare, once the internet became popular

vista wasn't as bad as people said, at least once sp1 came out. 7 was just a reskin of late vista. It used way more resources than XP for no particular reason, but other than that, it worked

last version of windows i could tolerate was 10 LTSC. Once they started putting ads and bullshit in it, i switched full time to linux

Oh interesting.

Is 10 LTSC not really an option anymore, or?

XP has the best aesthetic and feel but realistically it had too many security flaws, so I pick 7.

I do think with these old versions of Windows... if you're careful then they're fine.

The only time I ever remember getting a virus it was 100% my fault.

Used to take just clicking one bad link to fuck your computer up, nowadays you need to actually be stupid enough to run a malicious program to do any harm to your computer, and when they is rarely a security flaw it's quickly patched before it effects too many people.

It's just... what I'd say is that in my personal experience, as I say I only remember getting a virus ONCE and that was when I opened the bad file myself.

So this stuff often feels like hypotheticals, at least to someone like me who has used Windows and Linux for my whole life and has never really had any problems with either... at least until the "solutions" came along. The solutions have been an absolute pain in the butt.

It makes me wonder if they're MORE about control and hardware sales, and less about keeping you safe from malware.

XP doesn’t have the search bar, which 7 introduced. 7 is the best aesthetically and functionally. 10 is bloated trash and I will comment on 11 when I build a new PC
windows 11 is the same as 10 but with more bloated trash with a different look

top 3 windows 10 > windows 7 > XP

I liked 7, xp and 98. Vista was aids, 10 is a shittier version of 7

8.1 as the last windows without adware in it. It also had loli mascots.

8.1 was good yeah. I don't think it was as good as 7 but... it does deserve credit for being the last truly tolerable Windows release. More than that I found it quite enjoyable to use :feelsautistic:

I had no idea about those mascots! They're cute. XD

Oh I just realised you meant they started putting ads and stuff in even the LTSC version. That's pretty wild.

Sorry - I read your post for the first time when I was walking along outside and I guess I must have missed that detail!

Weird isn't it that really you're supposed to feel like a valued customer when you use a product.

I'm not convinced a Windows user has really felt like that since 7.
