I think that after death that's it, there's nothing more. BUT if there is something after death then I think our last moments are important for what awaits us. I'm not talking about heaven and hell, but maybe some kind of eternal state of our consciousness? I don't know, what was over his mind when he shot himself MAYBE he was at least then in peace but much more probable is that his lasts moments he spend on rage, anger, sadness and at the literally lasts seconds he thought how he fucked up, how he regrets what he done and how it's just over for him. If consciousness survives our death, I think it's burdened by those last thoughts and emotions.
