Deleting yourself from social media is a lot more effective. Your "real" friends will still keep in touch with you outside Facebook. Nobody else is a real friend.

Try with a Chad sock puppet Facebook account. I made up a name like Troy Baxter and was accepted by 70% of women I friend requested.
