It was when we completly stopped making other things than food with our own hands. Since there isnt much manufacturing industry left in neither western Europe or the US, food is the only process of production that we still control, wich means we have become control freaks about food. We want to express ourselves with it, improve our lives and health with it, adorn our social spaces with it, make the process of making food as complicated as possible to prolong the pleasure of actually creating something useful with our own hands. That is why food has become a hobby.
