The muddled mess that is politics. It's a realm where the noble and the nefarious coexist, where altruism and self-interest are forever entwined. We're told it's a necessary evil, a means to an end, but I'm unsure. Maybe it's our reflection of our flaws, a manifestation of humanity's inherent contradictions.
I mean, think about it,
We claim to want freedom, but we're just as likely to trade it away for the promise of security or stability. We preach individuality, but we can't help ourselves - we're drawn to the comfort of conformity like moths to a flame. And politics? It's just a game we play to try and reconcile these contradictions.
But what's the point of it all? Is it about creating a just society, or is that just some lofty ideal we trot out when it suits us? Maybe politics is just about power - who's got it, who wants it, and how far they'll go to get it.
Legitimacy is the word they use to describe governments that have our consent. But what does that even mean? Is it when we meekly accept the status quo because we don't know any better? Or is it when we actively participate in shaping our destiny?
With how many ideologies I've heard touted as the solution to all our problems. Liberalism says individual rights are paramount; socialism claims economic equality is the key; conservatism... well, conservatism seems more concerned with preserving tradition than anything else but quite frankly, conservatism (at least as of now) is more or so classical liberalism.
Politics is an experiment - an ongoing trial-and-error affair where societies try to create systems that work for everyone (or at least most people). It's messy and imperfect, prone to abuse and exploitation.
(TL;DR) Politics is like sports. Liberalism vs Conservatism, Socialism vs Communism, Authoritarian vs Totalitarian.
