Girlfriend.
When I was a young man, I thought this was the sweetest word in the English language. “I have a girlfriend”. “Let me introduce my girlfriend” “Joe is an alright guy, he has a pretty girl that wants to be near him”
The many parameters that comprise a young male’s search for his identity, his place in the social strata can be largely encompassed by that one word; girlfriend.
A desirable girlfriend raises a male’s status among his peers. This applies to both sexes. He gets more respect from alphas and his SMV increases among other females because of this fact alone.
Attracting a desirable mate, especially in the early years of personal discovery cannot be minimized in my opinion. It invokes confidence and provides a datum of social acceptance; those above and below the line.
The myriad flavors of social intercourse at this early stage of development are profoundly and irreversibly affected by this.
Not being able to attract a mate causes both internal shame, which originates inside yourself and external which comes from the outside world.
We here are acutely aware of both. The internal involves self-generated criticism and negative self-evaluation and everyone has self doubt.
External shame however results in a stark realization, an awareness that one does not belong in a preferred place in the social landscape and thereby internal fears that one will be forever ostracized from society.
External shame insidious and by far the worst I think. It can and does cause a disconnect vis-à-vis male psychological adjustment for the remainder of his life.
Being constantly shot down and ridiculed by your peers because of this inability to connect is one big source of external shame I think and it is absolutely devastating. It causes withdrawal and a deterioration of one’s self worth. It is why guys stop trying. The psychological pain becomes too great to endure. Coping mechanisms are a short term solution but will never be a cure.
