The (separatist) opponents of Pan-Arabism look back to their pre-Islamic past, whether that be Assyrianism, Berberism, Pharaonism, or Phoenicianism.

I believe such movements are illogical, not just because modern Arabs, wherever they are, have Arab ancestry, but because these pre-Islamic peoples already shared kinship amongst one another.

Arabs, Assyrians, and Phoenicians are all Semites.

Semites, Berbers, Egyptians, and Cushites are all branches of the Afro-Asiatic family.

Is this not a good enough reason to unite?

You are right we are all Semites but the issue goes beyond ideology and identity.
It is about economic difference how will people unite into one nation when we all have bad governance at home, horrible economic situations outiside Gulf monarchies.
Rich Gulf Arab countries would not want to foot the bill for our tattered economies.
