The (separatist) opponents of Pan-Arabism look back to their pre-Islamic past, whether that be Assyrianism, Berberism, Pharaonism, or Phoenicianism.
I believe such movements are illogical, not just because modern Arabs, wherever they are, have Arab ancestry, but because these pre-Islamic peoples already shared kinship amongst one another.
Arabs, Assyrians, and Phoenicians are all Semites.
Semites, Berbers, Egyptians, and Cushites are all branches of the Afro-Asiatic family.
Is this not a good enough reason to unite?
