It's a warrior dance ritual. NZ teams (esp. Rugby) perform it before a match. They do that in the World Cup qualifiers too (which NZ rarely qualifies). I have heard it all --- that it's tradition, that they do it to respect the opponent, etc., but I keep seeing it as an aggressive taunt, especially before games (the Irish rugby is famous for standing up to the haka). I'm surprised to see it in a tribute to dead people, tbh. And frankly, it seems a bit disrespectful to perform an aggressive warrior dance in memory of the dead, but that's just my stupid opinion.
