I have lived in Sweden for my entire life. Growing up and getting online, I have come to realize that there are a lot of opinions on Sweden out there. I suppose it has to do with the social politics, feministic foreign policy and comparably loose immigration practices in 2015 when it was a really big debate, and the integration troubles coming afterwards, along with some very strict definitions of rape. Recently, also because of authorities' choices relating to covid-19.
Naturally, a lot of outsiders think everything is messed up in Sweden. I haven't lived anywhere else, but I'm not convinced. The world is a mess, and I don't think the mess is unique to Sweden.
It appears to me that Sweden always like to do things differently. Personally, I think it is a consequence of wanting to make a difference, a feeling of importance that stems from a lack of actual international importance. There are only 10 million people in Sweden in a world of 7 billion people.
We have in fact a lot of good things. I am very happy to not have had to be in quarantine for the whole year, to skip the mask when shopping groceries and to get social security now when I lost my job. Of course, as a shortcel, circumstances are pretty hopeless here. Everybody are taller than in other countries and well, if you are not... But given I am so short, I am not convinced it would be different in any other country where I would like to live.
I haven't seen too many Swedecels on here, or maybe you are all hiding in plain sight? But given the general views on Sweden, it would be interesting to hear what other Swedecels think about Sweden. And all other people, what you base your view in Sweden on?
