this is fiction but it does point to a feeling that many people have. But I think that feeling is wholly invalid.
in 2020 people said the same thing about 2016, that it was the last normal year; in 2016 they said the same about 2012, and on and on ad infinitum.
it's always the last few years that's wrong, of course this isn't the case, its just the memory of the last 5 years is more recent. The world is actually getting more fucked up as its moving towards another grand crisis but it isn't more "weird" than it was 5 years ago. The logic of the world hasn't changed in the last decade.
2020 with the advent of the pandemic was yet another reminder following a long sequence of reminders that mankind is not living in the the end of history.
