It's so you're browser has extra (social media spyware) cookies that record you're IP so anything else you do while they are active can also be tracked.

Yet another reason to use browser isolation. As well as use a VPN, phone ISP, or a dynamic ISP. And also, while here, don't do research of anything else without switching into a new ip number.
