I think the biggest cope there ever was is the just-world hypothesis. It's the source of all of our current blue pilled thinking in societies all over. Mantras and cliches like, "hard work pays off," and, "what goes around comes around," and other catchy phrases meant to sound wise and insightful, are just there to delude wagecucks to make their boss, Mr. Silverstein, have more shekels, and for them to cope with the reality that people don't get what they deserve and that bad guys do win far more often than they lose (there is no justice out in nature/the universe unless we dish it in the form of legal punishment or go vigilante).
This cope is quite fundamentally what keeps society from imploding into full-blown anarchy.
Personally, my biggest cope that keeps me going is learning. It doesn't matter what it is, I have to keep seeking knowledge in one form or another, as long as it provides personal utility for me in some way. I've sought all kinds of it from many sources and it has taken me down some dark paths, regardless of my intents. There are, of course, other copes like doomer coping and playing video games, but those are fleeting.
We all have some kind of cope that keeps us going, else we'd all be roping. What's yours?
