what is going on with my notifications

every time I click on a new page it says i have 1 new alert then the red icon quickly disappears

that happens when you haven't checked it yet i think. check for an alert with a white circle next to it.

You can also just click the notification icon, click show all, and click the button mark all as read. That will resolve the issue, too, if it ever shows up again. And it will.
