What happened to prince of persia games?

I haven't played anything past two thrones and the last 2 games feel weird

What was the downfall of the series?
Was it the copy paste assassin's creed or coomer tomb raider?

Assassins creed happened. Assassins creed was supposed to be a prince of persia spin off about prince's bodygurad with focus on stealth gameplay in open world area later on it became something else and we got most laziest open world franchise ever
