What do you think about the Steam machine?

Could be successful enough to carve out Xbox's current niche in the console market, or it could bomb like their first attempts in 2015. With the Steam deck and gaming laptops being available for folks with a desire for a mobile, compact PC gaming experience, I don't see it being a strong contender against Ninty or Sony. Sony has the disgusting casual/normie market locked down pretty hard, and Nintendo has their IPs and audience that won't budge like kids and people who grew up playing their games.

The Gabecube would instead target Xbox's non-hardcore audience I think. The thing that will make or break the Gabecube will be the price. The imbeciles at Xbox have heavily hinted at the possibility that this "premium" priced console will be more PC like and will cost as much as one. If the Gabecube can match or undercut the next Xbox in price while offering at least similar specs, then I think the Cube could piss and shit in Xbox's face while not moving too many customers from PS or Nintendo. Why the fuck would you buy the next Xbox console just to play their shitty, woke games when you can get the massive library that is Steam?

Personally, I'm interested, but not enough to be preordering or anything like that. I already have a gaming laptop so I don't really see an immediate need or desire for an entirely new console that might cost up to 1k.

I alr have a gaming pc that can run path tracing cyberpunk at playable fps.

Steam machines probably can't compete with shit like a nintendo switch as they are almost double the price

Rumored price of at least $700, and probably higher, makes it DOA. It makes no sense buying this instead of a regular PC that you can upgrade. There are PCs out there now for that price that crush it in performance.

I'm sure some will sell because of the Valve/Steam name, and the supposed convenience of a Steam console, but it's disappointing.

The only way Steam Machine is plausible is if its dirt cheap. $600 max, preferably $500. Valve eats losses to get the Steam ecosystem out. But, they're already saying that's not the plan.

should've been an entire pc instead of just a console + pc

Can you install mods on Steam Machine ?

Too expensive for mediocre and very outdated specs. Anyone with a brain would not buy shitty rtx 3060 + some weak 6 core cpu in 2026 for $700+ when you can build much better pc on your own or even buy prebuild pc during sales with rtx 5060 for $750.

Underpowered and overpriced

Would have been a game changer 10 years ago. It's to late for something like this. It did exposed PC gamers wanting a console like device tho which is bizarre.

Gabecube won't go so well

Normie machine. They don't want to bother building a PC just plug n play, a replacement for consoles since those don't have exclusives anymore and at x2 price, probably.

No trucel cares about portablitity lol
