Having libertarianism be your entire ideology seems naive, but I can see how a left or right winger could have libertarian sentiments. I want the government to be decentralized for most day to day things, to increase accountability, but government intervention is useful in many areas. A perennial retort to libertarians which they never seem to be able to answer is "But what about the roads?". I think that sums them up.
I used to describe myself as a libertarian, after I abandoned my socialist phase, back in college. A funny episode I can remember from that time is when r/libertarian got flooded by socialists but the mods didn't want to ban them because of muh freedom of expression, so the sub got completely destroyed. It started to get me thinking about how counterproductive an ideology this was.
