What are the downsides to having no friends?

From what I understand, people nowadays seem to be selfish assholes anyway, so it's not like if I had friends they'd be of any use to me or anything. But maybe this way of thinking is a consequence of not having friends in the first place?

What are friends good for other than not seeming like a loser for not having friends?

I was a very social and dare to say happy kid until puberty hit me (it's like the wall for males), always tried to make people laugh and make new friends everywhere I went, then I started to isolate myself from the others mainly because of how they reacted to my looks, I started to gain weight, developing eye bags and so on.

I think that socialization is a key part of our development but you can't blame the rejected for his condition, just like you can't blame a victim for his victimizer.

Getting a job is harder and your health decreases a lot BC of isolation. Both times I tried to make friends and its worked, I was the therapist/butt of the joke, and had to always reach out. Tbh ppl other than my family don't even seem real to me, like NPCs. Its a meme but its true, I was so isolated by them that I don't consider them humans, no human would be so cruel.
