Not being Japanese and living in Japan is one of the biggest humblebrags considering how difficult it is to immigrate there. Must be giga rich or skilled to get a visa and even after that doing shit like opening a bank account, getting a phone number or renting an apartment is difficult because foreigner.

Spain from the public infrastructure point of view like roads, public transport and similar it's really good. Been to other countries in Europe and roads here are better and public transport kinda reliable and affordable. Healthcare is ovecrowded but good once you get an appointment. But those things without work opportunities and huge unemployment aren't too important tbh

I was a child so don't remember much but I remember people getting good salaries working blue collar jobs like construction and getting lots of loans to buy a nice car or a house. Unemployment while high compare to the rest of Europe was low and in general there was more optimism in society. This is a mix of what I've read and my memories but I was a child so I didn't know shit about economics.

Then the construction sector went boom because it was just a housing bubble, those people were unemployed (and had low skills because they dropped out of school to go work in construction) and were indebted as fuck so it was a domino effect that spread to the rest of the economy.
