No, man, the Germans repented of the Holocaust not because they were really sad, but because they were put in a position where they had to repent.
There are old YouTube videos where, in the 1950s, German children were asked about Hitler, and they said that he was a great guy who built roads and infrastructure and gave their parents jobs when there were 6 million unemployed people in the Weimar Republic.

You are cherrypicking. Germans also let an estimated 92,000 Jews die of starvation and associated diseases in the Warsaw Ghetto alone, the same picture in other ghettos. This was a deliberate policy until they ultimately introduced your alleged merciful methods en masse.
