Yes, they are. However, the gap is absolutely nowhere near where it was a decade or two before, and currently China is doing way better than Japan economically, with that unlikely to change much. Given China's overwhelmingly larger population, that means that simply a narrowed gap in incomes per capita is enough for there to be much more rich Chinese guys going to Japan to get laid than vice versa.
Things are getting quite good for the US, mixed for China, and bad for Europe and Japan.
