actually, you can use non-effect monsters in some modern decks, not that common but you can see them
I never bothered learning pendulums, I'm completely out of touch. Seems too spergy and I cant imagine any synchros or xyz decks keeping up with that.
Honestly wouldn't be that bad if you relied on the draw to get what you needed. Monster effects to summon or destroy isn't the problem, it's all the extra free searching and guaranteed combos that gets annoying.
nobody uses pendulum anymore from my experience. brick rate is too high I assume, needing 3 cards to work when most of your meta decks only need one card (and that card exists 30 times in different forms in the deck) to complete your entire combo
